Partial dentures are removable false teeth designed to replace one or more of your missing natural teeth. 

They consist of artificial teeth attached to a gum-coloured base that fits snugly against your gums and is held in place by metal or flexible tooth coloured clasps which attach to your existing teeth.

Any partial dentures made by us require you to have been examined by either your own or our GDP (Dentist) prior to the denture being made.

Acrylic and metal partial dentures are typically held in place with metal clasps or precision attachments that grip your existing teeth. 

Flexible dentures are made from a flexible acrylic material that allows the denture to flex into position, relying on your existing teeth and gums for support.

Flexible dentures are a type of partial denture best suited for small gaps (no more than 4-5 missing teeth) and are often used as temporary solutions. They are made from a flexible material that allows them to fit comfortably. 

However, because flexible dentures rely on your existing teeth and gums for support, they can place pressure on them, potentially causing problems in the long term. 

In contrast, light alloy (chrome) or a mixture of chrome and plastic (acrylic) partial dentures are more robust, and can provide more stable and long-term solutions for replacing missing teeth.

Adjusting to partial dentures may take a few weeks. Initially, you might experience slight discomfort or difficulty with speech and eating.

Practising speaking aloud and starting with soft foods can help you adapt more quickly. 

Over time, these issues typically diminish as you become accustomed to wearing them.

Clean your partial dentures daily using a soft-bristle toothbrush and denture cleaner. 

Remove them at night to allow your gums to rest and to soak them in a denture-cleaning solution. 

Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your natural teeth twice daily as normal, and flossing regularly to prevent cavities and gum disease.
